ECMA Music and Industry Awards Deadline October 17

(Charlottetown, PE) ? The deadline for nominations for the East Coast Music Awards (ECMA) and Industry Awards is October 17, 2005.

All Atlantic Canadian artists who are members in good standing of the East Coast Music Association and who released recordings between June 1, 2004 and October 15, 2005 are eligible for the 2006 East Coast Music Awards. Nominated musicians and industry professionals must be considered Atlantic Canadian, either born in Atlantic Canada or have lived in the region for the full eligibility period. At least 50 per cent of the members of any group must be Atlantic Canadian.

Two new awards have been implemented for ECMA 2006 to recognize Rap/Hip-Hop single track recordings and Long Form Music Videos.

The Entertainer of the Year category is open to all Atlantic Canadian artists, regardless of eligible releases. The winner is decided upon by a national public vote in addition to the members? vote.

The ECMA Industry Awards recognize the achievements and contributions of our industry professionals in 16 categories. Industry professionals and companies are encouraged to send in submissions to be recognized by the ECMA for outstanding contributions to the development of the East Coast Music Industry over the eligibility period. Changes made to the industry awards for 2006 include dividing the Radio Station of the Year into two categories, recognizing the differences between small and major market stations.

?The ECMA encourages submissions for any company or individual who deserves recognition in one of our categories,? said Steve Horne, executive director of the East Coast Music Association. ?We hope to again recognize those individuals from Edmundston to St. John?s who contributed to our industry during the last year.?

Submissions are sent to juries representing all regions of Atlantic Canada. These individuals have a demonstrated expertise and knowledge of the overall industry or individual categories. The juries forward their eight suggestions in each category to the accounting firm of Lyle Tilley Davidson and the top five selections in each category become the nominees announced in early December. The ECMA membership selects winners by a vote in January.

The East Coast Music Awards and Conference is set for its 18th anniversary from February 23 to 27, 2006 in Charlottetown, PE. For more information, visit www.ecma.ca
